Fighting Globalization - Minnesota Public Radio

Gerardo Cajamarca moved to Minnesota with his wife and two sons in 2003. He was forced to seek asylum after he received death threats for protesting against the government in his native Colombia. Gerardo recently spent some time with the Minnesota Public Radio to tell listeners about the fight against globalization that brought him to Minnesota. He organized labor unions in Colombia and protested against Plan Colombia, the United States' proxy war on coca growers and traders there. Cajamarca is a member of the United Steelworkers (USW), and spends his time touring the country with the USW Associate Member Program's "Global Justice Tour" against Plan Colombia, globalization, and the Coca Cola Corp. Gerardo's interview with Minnesota Public Radio has been recorded appears here in MP3 format.

Blue-Green Alliance
Politicians and others have tried to aggressively pit working people and environmental groups against each other for their own devious greed. Associate Members and the Steelworkers are leading the effort to fight against these divisive tactics. Fight Back America is playing an important role in forming a Blue Green Alliance on a national level and in several states including Ohio, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota and Washington. By investing in renewable energy and protecting our environment, we can create jobs and sustain a safer, cleaner world. The AMP and the Steelworkers have been the leaders in bringing the Blue-Green Alliance together.

The Blue-Green Alliance has advocated for:

Investing in technologies to create jobs
Improvements in our national security by reducing our dependence on foreign oil
Investment in renewable energy resources
Research and investment in transportation options
Legislation to promote green/high-performance buildings
Production and use of energy efficient appliances
